This Beautiful Mess valt het best te omschrijven als emo pop, waarbij donkere 80‚s pop (The Church en The Cure) wordt gecombineerd met de sounds van bands van nu (Radiohead en Flaming Lips). In samenwerking met Idol Media heeft Sallyforth Records in december 1999 het debuutalbum' Falling on deaf ears'‚ uitgebracht. Inmiddeld heeft de band opvolger, genaamd 'Temper the wind to the shorn lamb'. De catchy up-tempo song: 'Don't Go there' is de eerste single van het album waarbij een clip verschijnt.
Na 'Falling on Deaf Ears' heeft de band drie nieuwe bandleden aangetrokken. Lydia Wever zorgt voor sferische toetsenpartijen en mooie backing vocals, René de Vries (bekend van o.a. Rollercoaster 23) ontfermt zich over het drumstel en René van Wijk speelt gitaar.
Het album bevat 11 volwassen klinkende songs die aan melodielijnen niet onder doen voor bands als Coldplay, Sunny Day Real Estate of Radiohead. Temper the wind to the shorn lamb‚ klinkt gevoelig en ingetogen maar laat ook zeker een scherpe rand zien.
